Annual Payroll Report and Payment Deadlines

We would like to remind HR managers and payroll managers of the following important upcoming
July 10th deadlines:

  • Employee withholding tax payment for semi-annual tax payers
  • Filing of Social Insurance Annual Report (Santei)
  • Filing of Unemployment Insurance – Annual adjustment and estimate payment
These can be significant payments so companies should plan ahead for them.
For further information on these, please contact your payroll provider or Solid Japan at info@solidjapan.com.

Interim Tax Filings and Payments

A company in Japan may be required to file an interim corporate tax filing and/or an interim consumption tax filing. The requirement depends on a corporation’s previous fiscal year’s taxable income and its consumption tax collected. Generally a company will receive notice of these filing requirements 6 months into its fiscal year. The filing and estimated tax pre-payments will then be due within two months. However, a company may be required to submit further interim filings and make tax pre-payments where it has reached certain tax related thresholds in its previous fiscal year.
Please speak to your tax advisor about the potential obligations to submit these interim filings in order to make the proper plans and preparations for payment.
